Abstract:
After its new-found respectability and the government's interest in deregulating this tightly controlled business, gambling has become one of the most flourishing industries in the US. It grew from less than $40 billion in 1993 to $73 billion in 2003, 32.4% of the total global gambling revenue for that year. By 2004, 46 states in the US had some form of legalised gambling and it is expected that on-line gambling alone would generate revenues of $7.6 billion by 2005.

Pedagogical Objectives:

  • To highlight the evolution and growth of the gambling industry in the US
  • To discuss the challenges faced by it due to market saturation and the US tax structure.
